Founded in 2017, Wright Residential is new in name only. Building on the Wright family’s 80 years of experience, Wright Residential takes on home construction, looking to our heritage to deliver a positive building experience driven by care, excellence, and partnership.
Creating and sustaining a reputation of excellence for more than 80 years is no small challenge. Our success in achieving this feat is due entirely to the outstanding leadership before us and a commitment to client service.
1941
Paul V. Wright joins the rebuilding effort in Pearl Harbor
The days following Pearl Harbor’s attack, 19-year old Paul V. Wright, the grandfather of Stephen and Nicholas Wright, marched down to sign up for the United States civilian construction group. A week later, he found himself in Hawaii fully immersed in the rebuilding effort. He was part of a team under military command, working 12 hours a day, seven days a week.
1948
Post-War Construction Boom
In the post-war construction boom, Paul joined his father, J.K. Wright, first building summer homes in the Guerneville area and then homes and commercial buildings throughout Sonoma County.
1953
Paul V. Wright Incorporated is Formed
After years of building with his father, Paul V. Wright Incorporated was formed and marked the beginning of the Wright legacy and tradition.
1957
Paul V. Wright & Ben Oretsky Join Forces
Paul teamed up with his business partner, Ben Oretsky to bid and build Santa Rosa’s new Montgomery High School. The dynamic partnership would last over 12 years before Mr. Oretsky retired in 1969.
1965
Expanding Throughout the North Bay
With a new North Bay headquarters rooted in Rohnert Park, Wright and Oretsky began to focus their efforts on building projects throughout Sonoma County. This included Sonoma State’s Stevenson Hall, Piner High School, Santa Rosa High School, to name a few.
2016
Stephen Wright joins Wright Contracting
With Michael and Jay Wright’s retirement, a new entity forms and new leadership appointed at the commercial contracting firm. Longtime employee Mark Davis becomes President, and Stephen Wright, the son of Michael, joins the company as COO. Entering their third generation as a family-owned and operated business, Wright Contracting continues the rich legacy of quality commercial building in the North Bay.
2017
Historic Wildfires Destroy 5,000 Homes
The communities of Sonoma and Napa county were devastated by the Tubbs and Nuns fires. More than 5,000 homes are destroyed in one October evening.

Wright Residential is Formed
Following the tradition started by their grandfather, brothers Stephen and Nicholas Wright found Wright Residential to help our neighbors, friends, and communities through the rebuild and recovery process.
2020
Matt Van Heusen Promoted as President
Having built Wright Residential from the ground up as the Director of Construction, Matt Van Heusen is appointed President. Twenty-five years in the industry makes Matt a veteran leader in construction management. He leads the team in all phases of pre-construction, project management, and business operations. Today, Matt is a partner in the company.

Jim Wynbeek Joins as Chief Estimator
Beginning his career as a clean-up crew member and after mastering framing and finishing work, Jim progressed to leadership roles as a foreman, superintendent, and project manager. This industry experience, paired with his respectability and approachability, earned Jim this leadership position with Wright Residential. Jim appreciates that every set of plans is unique and thrives on creating value-add strategies for demanding projects.

Bright Future
In addition to handing over the keys to more than 40 families who lost their homes in the Tubbs and Nuns fires, Wright Residential remains dedicated to building custom homes, luxury estates, and multi-family developments in Sonoma, Napa, and Marin counties.
